To go 4 wheeling? I'm no rock climber tho'. Is there a place to go and kinda rally race type 4x4 wheel? I want to take my son out and just mess around... not 100mph stuff... just zip 'round and do some donuts and stuff... I have him for the month of July and want to find a place we can go for a few days and have fun... splash in the mud.

Any suggestions?

TIA...

:) :)

We lived in Plano for 11 yrs and used to go out to Gilmer TX with the Texas Motorized Trails Coalition and go offroading at Barnwell Mountain. There's no rock crawling or anything, but does have a lot of dirt & trees. It's out by Longview TX.
Here's some pics from Gilmer in our D90.
We also went to Big Bend National Park a lot. It has tons of easy/moderate dirt roads/trails (and NO crowds in July, that's for sure ).
Just some ideas....

Close to you and has all ratings of trails from dirt road to extreme.

Post up a date and I bet we can get some locals to join the fun.

Barnwell and Katemcy are both highly talked about on the wheeling boards. Might search PlanetIsuzoo...there have been many trips there by the Zu guys. Also check your local 4x forums. You may even find a few people to tag along from here if you post up your plans!

Apparently Katemcy is only open at certain sceduled times. There are a few Zu people going out there this weekend (http://http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?t=30925)though!

After this weekend Katemcy will no longer be open to the public. The owners are supposedly going to build on the land and don't want the hassle of running the park anymore.

Ok... some Great resources... for this first time though I think we'll go to the one closer to Austin/Marble Falls:

http://www.hiddenfallsadventurepark.com/fees.html

the gate fees are a little steep (about $50 for two people) compared to places that are further away, but, save on gas for the trip back and forth... since this place is about 15 miles from me.

Anyone wants to join in, we can go any Saturday in July except the 4th, Saturdays are probably a little crowded but the 4th will probably be "saturatus maximus", that's Latin for "too crowded" for Ldub who prolly dunt unnerstan Latin ;). So I'm open to whichever Sat. the most people that want to come can commit to. REGULATORS! MOUNT UP!!

July 11th,18th or 25th. Y'all tell me... I wil also put this in the "Meets" forum.
