I just joined and was wondering what the largest tires I can put on the stock 18" wheels. I have some vintage 15X8.5 vector wheels I may put on there put a 31X 10.50 may not be wide enough to give me the stocky look.

I once asked this question to Tone (RIP) and wound up purchasing a set of Pirelli Scorpion Zeros 285 55R 18s. No modifications necessary and they were really nice looking shoes.

Not so great in New England winters however..

I might as well repeat it before someone else does... the "search" function is your friend. With that said, fitting a certain size tire in the wheelwell also depends on wheel offset. Some 15" wheels may contact the calipers as well. You can crank up on the torsion bars to lift the front of the VX about 1" to level out the stance and give more room for a little larger tire and then still you can trim out some of the cladding like many of us have done. Welcome to the addiction!!! And really, there is so much info stored here, you should search around to familiarize yourself with as much as you can - not to mention, it's fun!

The absolute "largest" tire that will fit on the stock OEM 18x7 rim is LT285/75R18 (35" O.D.). This extremely tall and wide tire will require "lifting" the VX. There are only three(3) tires made in the world in this specific size. They are:

A: TOYO - Open Country A/T (All-Terrain type)
B: TOYO - Open Country M/T (Mud-Terrain type)
C: MAXXIS - "Bighorn" M/T (Mud-Terrain type)

On a "non-lifted" VX, the largest tire that will fit on the stock OEM 18x7 rim is LT285/65R18 (32.4" O.D.). See the photo gallery of "LITTLE LAURIE" with BFG A/T's in this particular size. Most owners of "non-lifted" stock VX's put on one of two(2) different sizes:

A: LT285/60R18 (31.4" O.D.)
B: LT275/65R18 (32" O.D.)

The search loves to mess with me. I know posts I had seen and am looking for, I put key words in and tons of posts show up with nothing to do with what I am looking for but not the one I want. After detailed searching forums I find it without the search function and it does have the key words I remembered and used. However I love the rest of the site and it is definately worth the sponrship money.

Thanls for all the info. I have placed the aluminum 15X8.5 vector wheels on and they clear the caliber. I really want a stocky look to the VX

Yikes! My bad...285s. Fixed original. Thanks for bringing it to my attention

CROTCHROCKET--- That's gotta be a typo. A "185" series on a VX would look like a skinny wagon-wheel from the old west. Remember, our OEM stock tires are "245" series. Anything narrower than a "245" series would look hideous.

Hands down 285/60-18 Nitto Terra Grappler is the best tire for the stock rim, and no lifting needed. Look at the 1st pages of my gallery as mine came from the place I bought it with originally with these on there already
