I love you guys - I truly do. :smack:

I believe it would have been the first Ax at ZuZoo! How cool would that be?
I'll try to get some more pics up later tonight. Getting ready to eat right now then its off to the Dubsters casa de Moab Red Rock to download a bunch of his photo's and upload mine from the Poison Spider trail.
A little story since it was an accident and no one got pictures...
on part of the trail there are these twisty sand burmed curves...
I sort of got overzelous with the skinny pedal...
apparently there was a couple of "bumps"...
lets just stay I got air...
lots of air...
so much air that upon landing all 4 tires went up in the air a second time on the bounce!
The boss (wife) was not amused:(
There are some cool photos of some more jumping antics on the sand dunes (part of the trail)!:bwgr:
Photos later!!!!!

Billy, Biju said he wouldn't take it on the trail - but still, he could have driven it TO Moab! Oh well, he still represented Isuzu love with all those collectables he donated!

On the trail, someone mentioned "responsible respectful etiquette" - and that was, no posting of pics of vehicles being strapped. Someone else didn't get the memo! Sweet, I say! So I'll try to cover my arse by saying I was the last VX to get to the obstacle after all the other vehicles chewed up the terrain and dug huge holes in places that already had huge holes. I should have been near the front of the group in this case. Since my rear diff is open there was no way for me to gain traction in the silty slop - trust me, I tried. Finally, as I let off the brake my floating VX would hop on the driver front tire and then back to the passenger rear tire making it seem like I was going to break something even though I wasn't even on the gas pedal. So at the base of the first obstacle, I was getting stuck every time I stopped. Instead of wasting time fighting it, since we were all at this hill way longer than Todd intended to be, I was just strapped up the whole hill... However! I was able to keep slack in the strap most the way up to proceed under my own power, if only that blasted Jeep wasn't in my way... :bgwo: Later that night, I got an "award" for being strapped the most... if you think about it though, I was only strapped once!

Pics coming!!!

Very cool pix! Yeah, the high fiving was for being the first one up without using the strap. The “again and again hil”l obstacle looks easy on film but in reality it was one of the most difficult obstacle on the trip. It was like trying to climb a small cliff surrounded by powered sugar, even the FJ was having trouble. That hill was so bad by the time Justin got to it he would still be there if it wasn’t for the Adams Family Crawler.;)

Well, it's my turn. Been home a couple of hours, uploading some of the 600 photo's taken. Man 'O' man, what a time I had. The great people I meet that I can now put a face to a user name. Meeting up with Marlin and Kodiak to convoy in from SLC and the looks we got from other travelers. Then arriving to see my first foxfire red mica, 'sweeeet', thanks for bring her up Sue. Todd's 4x4 101 class. If only I can remember half of the offroad knowledge Todd shared with us, Thank You Sir.

Then the ice cream social, nice name for a piss up, (crotchrocket can translate) wish I could of stayed longer, and been closer to the Lodge as in not driving so I could of indulged into more of Ldub's Chocolate Monkeee. Definitely a non smoking area. And seeing 17 VX's at once and every color repersented. Thought I had died and went to VX heaven.

Then the convoy, the butterflies, the excitment,... then the strap on the first ledge after 3 tries. But I wasn't the only one that needed it so I felt somewhat redeemed.

Anyway, to the snap's

My first MOAB experience! Thanks to ALL of you who helped, guided and educated me! I managed to keep the shiny side up and had a blast! I think "rubble trouble " on Hell's Revenge was the toughest, but I made it....and I like my newly revised tailpipe shape, and love the flatter tubing on my lower bull bar! The folks on this forum are just the best! A special thanks to Todd & Linda for all their help!

News alert...
Dub is a true die hard VXer! A few nights back a fund was collected and Larry got inked! A wicked skull with VX in bones under it. It looks sweet. Pics will come soon as Moncha documented this monumental event in pics!

Today was a long day on the trail. Two of us covered about 90 miles on the trail. It was mostly scenic with just a few rough spots. We did a loop consisting of White Rim, Lathrop Canyon, Scafer Trail (the switchbacks) and Long Canyon.
Pics will have to wait till I get home. We are heading out to eat and then heading out for the drive home in the morning. We will swing through Canyon de Chelly on the way home!:bwgy:
Till then...Happy Trails!

Thanks to everyone for coming together again.

I just got back to Dallas a few hours ago. I think I'm getting some Moab withdrawls. Thanks to everyone who posted pictures to make my withdrawls just a little bit easier to take.

Every trail was incredible this year. If I had to put them in an order, here is my top 5 list.

#5. Plateau Dome
#4. Fins-N-Things
#3. Porcupine Rim
#2. Poison Spider
#1. Kane Creek

As always, it was GREAT to see old friends. Equally GREAT are the new friends I met too.

Peace and Happy Trails

Rowhard, great meeting you & got to tell ya, loved seeing a Dragon in person for the first time. Your VX seems to be only 2nd to rickshaw's in being so clean! I'm pretty sure you haven't washed & waxed the undercarriage. You Dragon guys make it look soooo good! Also, your wheels are just too awesome, and I'm soooooooo tempted. I didn't even ask the brand/style as it'd only get me in $$ trouble real quick....and of course then I'd have to get the Terra Grapplers too....OH NOOOO....I see $$$$ trouble ahead!!!!! ;eekp;;eekp;;eekp;;eekp;

What a blast! Great to see all you guys again, and meet the ones I hadnt seen before. Didnt get to see most of you after the pot luck dinner. Was on the run with Travis when Mike (trooper trouble as he's now known) lost the clutch in his 1st gen. Closest we could find was in Grand Junction so I drove them out there friday morning then Mike and I put it in when we got back. 6-7 hrs later he was mobile again. Then saturday I decided to go with Desha for an easy run to gemini bridges and I somehow destroyed a front shock.

Great pics all around. I didnt get around to seeing all the posts while at camp. Too tired by the time I went to bed and had the laptop out.

What day did you guys do porcupine rim? Thats one that I was thinking of doing this year but never got to it. Will have to do it next year if someone goes.

rowhard, most had to be strapped, I think there were 5 or 6 that werent (counting the FJ and Steves trooper). I made the first ledge pretty easy but had to be strapped on the 2nd one becuase my rodeo is too long of wheel base and too low. I was getting hung up on the t-bar cross member (which is now kinda bent) and gas tank skid plate. I might have made it with some more rock stacking but I was at the back and by the time I got there just wanted to move on. So I tried a few times then asked to be strapped. I was one of the few without a strap hanging off the back the rest of the day because I had Steve behind me with his locked RS and 35s

For those interested that havent seen I have some pics mostly of my rodeo on the planet. Most are from the 2 runs I did alone. Mineral Point, cuz I had some time to kill and nobody was doing a trail I felt like doing that day, and top of the world, cuz I left camp really late and wanted to do something.

Got home yesterday, on the strength of a strong tailwind from Des Moines…did wonders for my gas mileage. :bwgr:

What a great trip! We had outstanding weather all week, probably the best I can remember for ZuZoo, and a larger group than last year. My Trooper did very well, running five trails, including three tough ones, without anything worse than a blown power steering hose (drove home sans power steering…not a big deal at all).

Saturday and Sunday I convoyed out to Moab with Greg from Minnesota and Gil & CeCe from Chicago, meeting in Des Moines. They were a good group to travel with, and we made good time to Denver. On Sunday we took our time, running Loveland Pass instead of the I-70 tunnel, stopping for a “Charcoalburger” in Glenwood Springs, and running scenic byway 128 into Moab.

Monday: Gil, CeCe, Tom and I hiked the Fisher Tower trail in gorgeous weather. It is a 2.2 mile hike to the overlook, over rough terrain. We enjoyed it very much, watching some rock climbers scaling the very top of one of the towers. We even enjoyed the wrong turn I took getting there, ending up on what turned out to be Onion Creek Road, as it took us across the creek numerous times through the canyon.

Tuesday: As few other Isuzus were in town yet, I tagged along with 20+ vehicles on the VX run to Dome Plateau. Although mostly a milk run, Todd Adams took us to various interesting points in the area, including caves, petroglyphs, dinosaur tracks, overlooks, and one deceptively difficult hill climb “Again and Again Hill”, which was a series of ledges half buried in powdery dust. The dust made for difficult traction conditions, though everybody made a valiant effort to get up the stairs.

Wednesday: I led a mixed group of nine vehicles on Kane Creek Canyon trail. This is a fun trail mixing difficult ledge climbs with numerous stream crossings and sandy creek bottom runs. It had been 8 years since I had been on this trail, in fact the very first trail I ever ran in Moab. By all reports it was a lot more difficult now, and I cannot argue with that assessment. Several washout points along the road offered a real challenge to the open diff vehicles (Mike’s 89 Trooper and Justin’s VX), with no way to attack the rocks without lifting a tire on each obstacle, so some strapping was necessary. The LSD-equipped VXs were generally able to make it, however, and Jay’s FJ has a locker.

We had been hearing about the long ledge climb ¾ of the way through the trail all day from the UTV group that was also on the trail, they were dubious of our groups ability to make it up without a lot of strapping. It was a challenge, but I am proud to say everybody made it up without a strap. Shortly thereafter, the “local” VX (Cragar?) met us on the trail, and joined us for the trip out, playing on a few tough ledges. It had been a long day so most of us were content to watch. Jack let sister Diane drive his VX on the last major obstacle of the trail, spotting her down and up a series of ledges. She did well, certainly didn’t inflict any more damage than Jack would have…

Thursday: I ran Hells Revenge with Fernando & Emily, Reed, Jack, and Greg. Another beautiful day, despite hordes of UTVs everywhere. Highlight was Fernando & Emily running Hell’s Gate in his SAS Amigo with a crowd of 50 or so UTV folks watching. Among the comments heard “What is that?” “I think that’s a Suzuki.” and “Oh my God, there’s a dog in there! I would never run that with my dog!” (apparently bringing your girlfriend is OK, though).

Friday: I finally got to run Moab Rim for the first time, lead by Fernando & Emily along with Reed in his Amigo, Morgan in his Jeep, and Travis in his monster SAS Rodeo. Kammy rode shotgun with me. After all the build up I had heard I was a bit apprehensive about this run, but reality was not nearly so bad. It is rated about the same as Golden Spike, a trail I have run a couple of times successfully, and I was able to run this one too. The trail does feature some tippiness that is not pleasant, but I was never fearful of rolling into the Colorado River as some had made it sound. The trail featured several nice overlooks of Moab, and a sandhill climb that none of us could conquer. Travis made it the farthest on his 40” tires.

Saturday: I ran Cliffhanger, again lead by Fernando & Emily, with a lot of spotting by Corbin (Fernando and Corbin are two of the best spotters ever, BTW), along with Reed, Travis, and Corbin’s monster Amigo (Deanna, kids, and dog in tow). Keith & Tia and their son Keiran (sp?) rode along. This is another trail that has gotten more difficult in recent years. I had run it once before, 4 years ago. Now I would have to say it is every bit as difficult as Moab Rim, albeit with somewhat different difficulty factors. The trail was very busy this Saturday, with lots of bicycles, UTVs, and other trucks on the trail. It was a hot day, and Tia handed out water to some grateful bikers at the far end of the trail who had used up their camelback water.

Highlight of the day was Deanna driving their Amigo up the exit stairs, when one of the front brake lines blew and she began to roll backwards down the steps, despite her foot to the floor on the brake. Calling to Corbin for help, he calmly instructed gave her steering instructions which she followed perfectly, keeping the Amigo straight and averting a possible flop before coming to a stop at the bottom.

My Trooper performed very well on these tough trails, with the only carnage being a serious power steering hose leak that fortunately did not develop until near the end of the trail. I am very happy with the setup I have, the relatively low lift and wide stance combined with ARB lockers and 35” tires making for a capable and relatively un-tippy Trooper. The outboard placement of the tires saved me significant body damage more than once, not that there isn’t enough of that already.

All in all, an outstanding trip! Apologies if I missed any names above, let me know and I will edit. I will be posting up pictures in the next few days, although I didn’t take as many after I broke the viewscreen on the camera. Mental note: take camera out of pocket before laying on gravel to look under a broken Trooper.

Which reminds me: I would like to pass on major kudos to Dave (Gizmo42) who not only drove Mike to Grand Junction to pick up a clutch kit for his 89 Trooper after breaking down on Fin’s ‘n Things, but also sacrificed a day or more of wheeling to help him install it while laying on the campground gravel. That was above and beyond the call of duty, sir!

Yeah, I can kinda see the resemblance......go ahead...make his day...and see what happens..., then we'll know for sure .. :p

You know, I would say he's definitely more of a Chuck Norris look alike, but you know, my wife was watching the ANTM marathon last night while I was working on the Trooper and I popped in to get a drink and a commercial for Tori & Dean came on. I had to do a double take, because I noticed that if I Ldub was 10 years younger, he might just look exactly like Dean. :D :D :D

I have to say that you and your Trooper make me eat crow for some of the things I have had to say about putting that much rubber on an IFS Isuzu! It just goes to show that a good, experienced driver can maintain an over-equipped IFS setup on difficult trails. 35's, lockers, 5.38's all equate to a sheyet-ton of leverage on those stock parts but a calm, steady foot plays well with them!

Thanks again for the run up 'the Creek - it was a fantastic day with the perfect number of rigs! Hope to see you again next year, Steve!

Well I have broken a couple of CVs in 2+ years, although one was entirely preventable, and the other probably was too if I had taken the time to get out and pick a new line. But I can get replacement CVs from a salvage yard for $40, and they pull them for me.

There are two schools of thought on lockers and CV breakage. Yes, lockers place more stress on axles, but IMHO more CVs are broken by shock loading than anything else. A front locker helps prevent the sort of scenario where a rapidly spinning tire suddenly contacts traction.

It was indeed a good day, if a bit long, but I think everybody pushed their respective envelopes some and learned in the process, that is when things get fun on the trail.

I am working on the pics. Slowly making my way across country still. I am in Dayton, Oh right now, no trailer problems...
My uncle in law is looking into making me an aluminum flatbed car hauler, that would save quite a bit in gas, so next year is a possibility.
I have all of Brandon's pics on my laptop, just gotta have a chance to upload them and get them posted.

I would like to give a shout out to a few of the great people I met out there, as a NUB, it was a very eye opening experience:
Thanks to Billy, an amazing spotter, Tom, for being awesome, Steve and Todd, for being great trail leaders, Rodeo Dave, for being entertaining, Jack for making sure that I was not the youngest VXer there...:), Trooper Mike, for not quitting and making the run up to Top of the World with me. I know there were others, and it was great meeting all of you. I will post up pics and stories in a few days when I finally make it to Charleston...

In addition to all I have already posted...

Thank you so much to everyone. I had an awesome time out in Moab, as I do every year.

Steve- Great idea going on that hike in Fischer's tower. Thanks for inviting us. And thank you for leading us on Kane Creek. It was great convoying with you. Hope to see you in Gilbert.

Biju- I was so glad that you decided to come out this year. We missed you last year. Next time... Bring the Axiom

Crager34- It was an awesome surprise having you meet up with us on Kane Creek.

Jay- I have FJ envy. We will have to make it down to Texas soon.

Kenny- Thanks for fixing Gill's exhaust flange, he was a happier camper after that.

Donna- It is always a pleasure talking with you. I hope you and Kenny make it to the Gilbert run. And yes you do say "eh" a lot... :p

Kodiak- Way to make Again and Again look easy in street performance tires!

Ldub- Thanks for showing my sister the ropes on Dome Plateau. Sorry we missed you on the last day. We will see you soon...

Marlin- You did good noob! :bgwo:

mn840sc- You impressed me taking your ride on Kane Creek! Major kudos for you!

Scott and Laura- I love you!!! You are such a great pair and it is such a great pleasure to hang out with the both of you. If only I lived closer...

Mark- Your VX gets beefier(sp?) by the year. Lockers are next? Hmmmm...

Greg- Thanks for showing my Mom around Dome Plateau. Glad you decided to ride out to moab a day early with us. See you next year...

Jack- It's always fun to wheel with you. You got to make it out to Chicago again soon. We'll buy you the best Chicago pizza, I happen to know someone... LOL

Rowhard- Though we didn't get to do much talking, watching your Dragon go up Again and Again was mesmerizing. It was the first time I had seen a Dragon in person. She truly is beautiful.

Scott Harness- Sorry you couldn't wheel with us. I am glad you decided to join us at Miguel's for dinner. It's always fun hanging out on the stoop with you.

Todd and Linda- Thanks for leading our trails and for tailgunning (not easy to do without a windshield). See you in a few weeks!

Tom- Glad we found you before heading out on our hike to Fischer's Tower. Thanks for letting my sister ride shotgun with you on Kane Creek. She had a blast!

Billy- I did not think you would be able to get up the right side of Again and Again, but you proved me wrong. And it made for some pretty cool shots. It was great wheeling with you.

Lisa- Next time, we will bring the Jager!!! I don't care if you say you are only drinking beer. It's MOAB! And we are doing Jager shots!

Sue- Sorry you missed out on the VX Run. Too many Chunky Monkees???? LOL It was so fun meeting you and seeing your enthusiasm for the VX. Glad you caught the addiction. Hope to see you next year.

Justin- Say it isn't so! We are going to miss seeing you in your Ebony! You better still make it to Moab. Regardless of what you are driving.

Cece, great pics!!! I am in the process of uploading the first 250 of 750 pics to photobucket. I will post the unique ones up later and provide the link to the gallery. You got some awesome pics. I am gonna agree with Tom, Kane Creek was the best trail, river crossings, decent obstacles, crazy ledges, and of course the abandoned Jeep, still kickin myself for not taking his hood ornament and plate number and doing a "garden gnome" photo shoot with his ornament and then sending it back to him...would have been classic. "Wish you were here" on the CD with the pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While I was in Missouri, I took the VX off the trailer for some krawlin on my Father in laws farm. I went to cross a creek, sank in the mud, tore the front plastic off, bent the fenders and hood, had to get pulled out by a John Deere 4020...LOL. All the stupid stuff I did in Moab, and no major damage, 30 minutes in the mud...it took me almost an hour to fix the stuff. Still gotta straighten the fenders out when I get home:( More incentive too start my bumper. Next weekend, the bumper project starts.

Kenny: Your Bryce Canyon shots are amazing. I have yet to get there and next time I go to Moab I will definitely detour through that area.

Gill: New rims, eh?

Bart

As far as I know the "carnage" was minimal this year. Gizmo broke a shock on his Rodeo, Mike blew a clutch (probably a bad clutch to start with) on his Trooper and then Gil had issues with his exhaust (backed into a rock) which caused a CEL and rough idle and took a rock to his rocker panel that mis-aligned his door.

Can't say much more than what has already been said. Being in Moab is the best. Seeing all the VXers and other Isuzu fanatics ROCKS! The scenery is amazing. It blows my mind every year I go. Even with the "carnage" I wouldn't want to miss a single year. Scott Harness made a comment about the VXes getting thrashed, and I would have to agree with him. I would rather do easier trails, than beat up my baby. Don't be surprised if we show up with a tricked out AxirooperodeomigoCROSS in the coming years. Thanks to all the spotters, wrenchers, trail leaders and tailgunners. Cece and I are going to go out and wash my VX. We will take some pictures of the trail trophies. The exhaust was fixed in Denver, but is still not 100%. So maybe we will have to get 2 new exhaust systems :naughty: . One for him and one for her! I think the Chicago rust played a key role in the failure of the exhaust flange and bracket. Be thankful if you're not in the rust belt.

Miss Moab already... Hey Harness and Dub, when does the commune open? :_group2:

LOL, my F-I-L calls it "Rumble Bumble". Looks like a bumble bee and it rumbles, but scar is way cooler. I will be done with the new bumper in the 4-6 weeks, then it will definitely look like Mad Max style. I will also be bed linering (I know, not a word) the front of the hood and fenders, no more rock chips and touch up paint............all this means that I will have a front cladding piece available soon. On a more serious note, I would like to take this opprotunity to extend my warmest THANKS to all my VX brothers & sisters, for making this & every Moab Famgath, the best ever.
Maybe it's just fading memories (ya THINK?) that make every year seem better than any previous, but this year was an incredible amount of fun...
Even though I missed those who couldn't attend this year, it leaves room for even MORE fun potential next year...

Thanks also, to all those that passed the hat to get the ol' dooder some ink...YOU ALL ROCK !
Now I know what people mean when they say that ink is addictive...I already have "plans"...:naughty: (You can see my new adornment in Monchas gallery)

I would LOVE to be able to go into eloquent detail with regard to every random act of kindness shown to both Jim & myself, but memory no longer allows, & I know I'd leave someone out...:mbrasd:

Just know how much I appreciate having every one of You as my friends, stay safe & well until we meet again, and to those that weren't able to be there this year...don't let it happen twice...:smilewink

Yeah, I imagine at this point, you see a dashed line speeding by in your perefrial even when your eyes are closed. Just keep driving, just keep driving, just keep driving...

How did you know? It was actually in the voice of Ellen Degeneres(SP?). "Just Keep Driving" over and over again. To make things even better, I got back to SC on Sun evening, only to spike a 103 temp, turns out I have strep throat. My brother texted me and told me my niece got sick Sun morning...kids, little germ factories. So the last two days have been miserable and today doesn't look any better, my VX is filthy, the Expy needs an oil change, I have a skid plate to bang out, a bumper to start....it never ends.
On a good note, my wife and I my actually make it out next year. Now she wants to go, and we may have found some cash. Turns out my taxes were wrong and I didn't get credit for all the points that my builder paid when I bought my house. I also paid way too much into my escrow, so we may be able to use that money to fund the trip, pending gas prices of course....

The exhaust on yours and Jacks sound soo good. Thanks man! I love how my exhaust sounds in Moab... on the highway, not so much. But here and there on the trail it resonates off the sandstone walls! I'm running a Hushpower II by Flowmaster.

thx sprey! im running a powervault PV2 on mine... it sounds pretty good for the most part, if it rev's too high it gets a little raspy but at low rpm its really beefy..

I am so sorry Linda and I won't be joining you guys this year. Of course OUR Moab fix starts in a couple of weeks with the Easter Jeep Safari. Here is a link to the on line paper which provides a lot of info even if you are not participating but coming to Moab later. http://www.rr4w.com/pageview.aspx?id=33005 enjoy.

I try to hook up with Gill and Chi-Chi when I am in Chicago. Talked to them both a week or so ago. Even had Pizza with them last year.
