No other color seems to generate so much "jealousy & envy" as Proton Yellow - wonder why?:bgwo:I'll never forget the day I bought mine...
I was at the dealership in November 2001, looking at a used '99 Ironman, and mentioned to the salesman that "I like the Ironman, but what I REALLY WANT is a PROTON, but they are all gone!"
He replied, "We have one sitting on the showrom floor..."

The rest is history. :bwgy:

Something similar happened to me - someone had just bought the last Proton and I was about to order a Foxfire when I got a call - the Proton had been returned - the guy's wife just couldn't deal with the color - I could barely contain myself!

"NO NO NO ..SILVER IS THE BEST .....like a bullet........wooooosh"

Yup - Astral's are 'one bullet Barney's'. One pass & they got nuthin left.

But soft, what light through yonder window breaks,
It is the East and Proton is the sun.
Arise fair Proton and kill the envious moon,
who is sick and pale with grief
that thou her maid art far more fair than she ...

Sorry Shakespere - Rekin we'll never see Romeo & Juliet the same again.

Actually, when I had my '99 Astral and went to trade it in for my Proton (I just had to have that color), the salesman said, "Now remember, you have to wake up to that obnoxious color everyday!" All I said was, "It's ok, the color matches my personality to a T."

Nope..his screen name here is "LDUB" and he drives an Astral. :)

I will admit..there is one look a Proton can pull off that no other color VX can:

Would someone with PhotoShop skills PLEASE post a pic of a proton VX with O.E.M. spares (donuts) mounted on all 4 corners..lol. :) (okay..a sideshot w/ 2 spares should suffice!)

If I owned a proton...I'd never need to buy tires...just ask for donated donuts...lol. :)

I am the proud owner of a 2001 Proton VX (vin#1326), the only one with red and black leather interiors I might add, it looks sweet!

Regarding the red interiors. Funny story; I work with two more people (husband and wife) that "randomly" owned the same Silver VX each (yeah, I was as surprised as anyone when getting there on my first day of work and saw the two VX’s on the parking lot… what are the odds?).

The engine of one of them blew up recently and to replace it was more money that to sell it by parts. I talked to my coworker and we decided to trade interiors on that VX and we did... including the steering wheel, panels and knobs with amazing results… now, that is my own personal opinion. He kept everything usable for his own VX and donated what was left of it... Pictures to come... (By the way, how can I Up-load pictures on the site and on my profile?)

Mine is a 2000 VIN #756 with 74,000 miles.

I've had a few little problems here and there over the years (new radiator, salvaged ABS computer from a junkyard were the biggies -- besides 1 serious not-at-fault accidents and two rear-endings)... but otherwise it's still in great shape after 9 years. Just put a dual tailpipe on it and it looks great! Thinking about a sunroof next.

I'll tell ya, I have never owned a vehicle that has turned so many heads, where people shout out or approach me in the gas station or parking lot to say nice vehicle, to catch someone taking a photo (to be candid, the lift has a LOT to do with the look). Even my wife forgave me for indulging in a money sucking impulse buy because she likes the color. And its not the vehicle. I owned an Ironman a year prior.

Very nice looking Proton. I wasn't sure I would want a Proton but the more pictures I see of them the more I like the color. I have an 99 Astral Silver that I am in process of getting it back to a good looking vehicle.

This picture doesn't really do the tires justice. They have plenty of tread left on them, but I will probably be checking out some different, deeper tread tires for the winter. I am proud to say that I am the second owner of this VX. The original owner was pretty light on it and didn't do much to it. Unfortunately, that means maintenance as well. I replaced the front, rear, and t-case fluids right when I got it since they have never been replaced.

If you don't mind, how much did you pay for the t-case and diff services? I'm doing those soon and don't know how much it'll cost me. Yeah, the pic seemed to show no tread, but its just a pic.

It wasn't very expensive. Got it done at a Jiffy Lube for around $150. Or for half that cost you could just drain/refill yourself for just the cost of the SAE 80-90 oil, provided you know how to change your own engine oil and you have a drain bucket.

I wasn't in a position to be able to do these services myself, otherwise I would have saved some money. Jiffy Lube also replaced my serpentine belt for ~$80. I got the works done to it before I drove the 5 1/2 hours home.

Previous Owner put on those rims. There are absolutely no mfr markings on them at all. The little looking around I've done yielded some similar but none 'zakly like 'em. Sorry can't help.

The only picture I have, from my cell phone camera when I picked her up at the auto shippers a few weeks ago. I vowed no new photos until I get the damn front cladding replaced, which should be here soon if the dang seller will get off his butt:

Good to know. BTW, Rustoleum "John Deere Yellow" is a pretty close match too if you ever need to rattle can any parts. I actually painted my rear door with it & then put clear coat over it (Yah, I'm that cheap).:)

:bgwo: omg.. that's awesome.. I work for a car dealer, so my "cheap-o" dealer cost proton "indy solar sun" was $1200 bucks.. Macco screwed it up so badly because, as the manager told me after I came completely unglued on him regarding the 7 days they had her.. brought it back crappy.. took it for another 7 days.. brought it back again.. crappy.. and so on.. for a total of 21 days at Macco.. it's still needing to be fixed.. I told him to stuff it sideways.. (but a whole lot nastier with a whole lot of "Im not southern, Im from Boston, my father was a trucker and a retired Army MP, retired State Trooper" attitude.. yeah.. I bought touch up paint and fixed it myself for 12 bucks.. they taped off at the cladding instead of removing.. when they pulled the tape off, it stripped the brand new Back to Black I'd just done a month before.. there were spots of missing paint all together.. 21 days.. the manager doesn't like me much.. since I pulled my entire dealer's account with them.. costing them way more than 1200 bucks for a crappy paint job.. they lost more than that in weekly cars they "were" painting for my dealership.. mess with me will ya.. dealer supply stores also carry these great little paint "pens" like a jumbo sharpie in just the most perfect Proton color.. you can touch up with it.. you can write on your windows if you feel like it.. (I did- I wrote on the back glass "if you want a bad paint job & pay a great price, go to Macco on 34th" and drove around for weeks)

I bought it from a forum member: http://vehicross.info/forums/member.php?u=2497, so it was around this forum since 2006.

I did a few minor tweaks on my VX since I got it from Henry:

If I ever landed a proton I would never even so much as think of covering it up. You should wear your proton color with pride in my opinion. :-)
