Got my hood painted black, still on my way to start racing, and i'm almost there. I'm starting to go race in the rallycross here in corpus christi, they race every month once a week in the weekends. it's run by SCCA.http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/thumbs/caro_060.jpg (http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=13055)http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/thumbs/caro_059.jpg (http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=13054)http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/thumbs/caro_058.jpg (http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=13053)

Coastie, I have to say, I honestly liked the way it looked before. HOWEVER, maybe you need to paint your insert white now? I just feel like the lack of contrast is slightly off putting now. But don't listen to me if you are liking it!
EDIT: or maybe even red?

I was thinking of doing this. I also want to do accross the top of the truck too. I kinda agree with Bart tho. Maybe I will still do it and paint the Rising Sun on the insert.

Allow me to sound like the party pooper here, but, I don't like it. Probably mostly because of the aura that surrounds that here. Around here, guys paint their hoods black because they can't afford-want that C/F look. And trust me, you see it a LOT. Sorry CC.... I am sure you have your reasons, but I am already brainwashed. :p

You know, I see this all the time too. I think what Coastie should do at this point is something to his hood insert to offset the tone of the hood now. Either paint the whole thing black, or paint the hood insert another color (like red or white) to bring the contrast back.
And Coastie, let me say after all of this, that your VX is hot looking, I have always liked what you did, and you have the coolest looking rally VX out there, just offering my suggestions is all. It still looks baddddassss in my opinion.

As with all mods there’s a right and a wrong way to do just about everything.
Wormgod has a point. It seams like every kid with a Honda and some flat black spray cans is painting there hood. I do thing it look good on your VX but
Bart’s right, it needs a little something extra.

Well if you look at the tubas racing team, before they changed there look, they had there hood black, same goes for the dba brakes VX from Australia, they had there hood painted black as well. Sorry but i'm not going for the boy ricer look by any means, the only reason the vx looks they way it does now is cuz i want it to resamble and maybe 1 day be a real rally VX, but thats it. if you look at my honda or lancer they are very simple, they don't show any signs of ricer at all. But you all know here that pictures don't show what the eye can really see in person. every 1 that have seen it says it looks amazing. I wish you guys can see it in person, then you can really judge the look. But hay it's all good, cuz we all have diffrent taists here and thats what makes a VX meet or Car show interesting, Right? And it does not hurt me at all, cuz i'm happy with it, and thats what counts, That the owner is happy, Right?

I got to thinking about this yesterday and because of that, I took notice of every painted hood I saw while on my way home last night. I didn;t see a single C/F hood, but I did count 3 painted hoods (though one looked it was probably just off of a parted out car, heh). The one that took the cake was the Prelude that had a black hood with, not one, but TWO PepBoys stick on scoops. It was tEh SecKs!

LOL, yup, it was me. I have always been very fond of contrast, and this goes for the VX as well. Even though my VX is all black, it still maintains that 2-tone look, or Black on Black. In the case of the lighter colored VXes, I think that contrast is even more important. I think he either needs to bring back that contrast and paint the hood insert white to match, or paint it black to blend in with the rest of the hood. Having the black hood, gray insert, white body, yellow lights, red vinyls, things are getting to 'busy'. There has to be a uniformity that brings it all together and keeps it looking pro.
Huh, in that case....

Is that Battle Angel?
ya my opinion is it is too much with the yellow fogs and headlights...
See, I like the yellow up there. It looks good and rally-ish to me. And I love the red vinyls on the side, but now, Coastie has the hood to finish and I am confident he will succeed!! ;)
Part of doing good mods to me is keeping it simple. You don't want to overload your vehicle with every possible mod available just because you can. When you do that, you start going down the tacky path from which there is usually no return. But as always, this is just my opinion. To each his own!

Yup - I've always liked the contrast of black on black:rolleyes:
con⋅trast –noun: opposition or juxtaposition of different forms, lines, or colors in a work of art to intensify each element's properties and produce a more dynamic expressiveness.
So therefore good sir, contrast can be "black on black" as in gloss black on flat black, or in the case of my VX, the gloss black compared to the almost black cladding. It does need to be "light and dark" as you may be thinking, although, that is likewise considered "contrast". :)

But the hood insert is black, it's flat black, and the hood itself is flat black with a clear coat, making it a little glossy but still flat if compared to a factory black painted car. you can't tell the diffrence really in person, other then the insert, it has no shine at all, thats it. I want to get the cladding around the whole VX painted with some rhino liner stuff but not bumpy. And thats the only thing on my VX thats really not black anymore, but grayish. Then it will look better when painted with black rhino stuff, i think.http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/thumbs/caro_060.jpg (http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=13055)
