Greetings!
I know I am not the only one here! I would like to see how you spend your dough when it's not going to modding the VX.
I'll start:

ISF Calibrated Samsung HL-S6187W DLP 61 inch TV
Denon 3808CI AV Receiver
Samsung BD-UP5000 HD DVD/BluRay Player
Direct TV HR21 HD DVR
Yamaha 5.1 Speakers
Mirage Audio 15 Inch Sub
Monster Power
Monster M1000 HDMI Cables

Detail of Direct TV HD DVR and friend:

And an overall shot taken from kitchen:

That's about it. I have as much wrapped up in my system as I do in the VX. For the dough spent, I feel my HT is killer. I am sure there are others out there fortunate enough to have a dedicated HT room, and that is the plan someday. For now, I do get alot of enjoyment out of the HT. I love to have folks come over and see the silly grins and chuckles as the lasers fly and the floor starts shaking!

Looks like your watching resident evil. I'm at 102" projection, optoma hd-70 projector, Harmon Kardon receiver, Infinity Beta all around, direct tv hr20-700, wii and xbox360. Only mistake: toshiba hd dvd player is now obsolete. hi-res pics of VX's look even better at this size!

Here is my ENTIRE DVD collection--
http://home.comcast.net/~gregg.north/DVD_collection.jpg

I just upgraded to the Onkyo HT-SP908 system with TX-SR605 7.1-channel A/V receiver and DV-SP405 DVD Player. I have a Sony 46" Bravia XBR2 LCD TV on the wall. I just watch HD programming on Dish Network. Not into movies. The DVD's were Christmas gifts. I've never bought one! :)

Perhaps we should start a CobraJet DVD pool.....
Keep the pix coming!

Yep, I am an audio/video drone as well.

Currently, and without complete specs, my family room is packing:

Yamaha 5.1/7.1 Matrix/DTS reciever
Yamaha speaker system (front M, front L/R, rear L/R, rear M)
Sony 12" powered sub

48" Mitsubishi rear projection 1080i HDTV (having a hard time upgrading since I have had it for 6 years and it still works perfect)

DTV DVR reciever w/ Slimline 5LMB

Sony 400 CD changer (fluff.... I dont even use it but it makes a great storage device)

Now the REAL fun stuff....

XBox360 (completely modified - black case w/ clear plexi cover, upgraded LED fans, modded air venting)
XBox360 HDDVD
Xbox
Sony PS2
Nintendo Gamecube
Nintendo 64
Nintendo (NES)
Sega Genesis

Using Windows Media Center, I have some of the goodies linked up through my Frankenstein computer, which doubles as another enteretainment system considering it pumps its own 5.1 surround sound system with a 30" LCD monitor.

More DVD and HDDVD movies than I care to think about. And dont get me into games.... totally different story there. One big GenXer who aint ever growing up. ;)

Over achievers and over consumers gentlemen.... we shall be known as great audio/video legends.... in our own heads that is. :bgwp:

Only pics I have are of when I first moved in to my houseand started hooking crap up. My family room is 200% different now.

DVDs are going the way of the 8 Track. I have two words that will change the way you think of home theater forever. MEDIA SERVER! :p

taylorRichie
07/12/2008, 02:02 PM
I second the media server :D I have 3TB of Media servage :D

I have two 50" Plasma TVs, my mine set is a Panasonic Unit, Monitor Only, no built in tuner speakers etc. I hate all that unnecessary garbage. Just have a Pioneer Tuner, Comcast HD, Mirage Front and Rear, JBL Northridge Center and Sub (12"). XBOX 360 and HD-DVD player. I have a few hundred DVDs, and even more Digital files, most are DVD Rips, a few HD rips and all the HBO Series'

Next time the room is clean I'll snap a pic :D

2 Tb of flac files on Sonos server. I have a system in the bedroom, dining room, listening room, and of course computer room.

I have yet to rip my DVD's to the server.

The server makes music accessable, and thats what its all about for me. I prefer the sound from my transport -->DAC, but its not quite as convenient.

I have spent a lot on my system, and so far, my old wood fired 'puter is the last thing in the house to upgrade, so no media server for me.....
Looking good guys! PIX!!!!!

Well its not my stuff, but I was the architect of our family's theater. I'll try to get a photo or two up tomorrow

Our setup is:
-sony pearl 1080p24 projector shining on an 82inch screen
-yamaha reciever
-All Klipsch Reference series speakers
*RF-82s for front left + right
*RC-35 center
*RS-25s for the rear (mother had to have white speakers in the rear for appearance , the smaller speakers don't quite match up with the front)
*and it was either an RW-12 or RW-10 sub

Sources are a PS3, Wii, and verizon FIOS HDTV. With a blu-ray movie there is nothing like Lossless PCM audio and 1080p24 video! Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gran Turismo 5:P also make for quite the experience :bgwo:

I think that is the hallmark of a worthy system! If your neighbors know what you are watching, you are doing something right;)
I live next to a pool / hotub area. A few weeks ago I was in the water and I swore I was hearing thunder and/or aircraft. When I came back in the house I realized I had left Transformers running......

Best part about it.... he is an "attack cat". No joke. On command, I can get him to attack anyone I want. He will even attack dogs. You may think I am kidding, but seriously, this cat is some sort of genetic reject or something. I live not too far from an NIH facility and since he was from a litter from some stray around that way, it makes ya wonder.

Oh, his bones are about 2X thicker than a normal Tabby and he weighs, get this, 26lbs. And funny enough, the vet says he isnt overweight because of his size and bone mass. Pretty crazy for a 10 year old cat who is still as energetic as a 1 year old kitten.

Ok, back to the topic....

James, your audio system is totally sick. It kinda ruined mine for me. :(

Maybe next summer I will drop a nice bank roll on a new audio system.

Heh, ya, that stuff is crap. Sadly, the girl I was dating then brought it all over to drink while she "watched" me unpacking and setting stuff up. If I recall correctly, I was drinking Bailey's on the rocks that evening. I was wimping it out in a whole other fashion, heh.

Sadly, the cat (Takhisis) lives with my mom now. I was tired of patching up my dog's face from T's tantrums. She did tell me a story about him this passed winter though. She had a fox that was frequenting her backyard and laying on her pool cover daily. T took off out the back door one day and attacked the poor fox. My sister has a couple pics of it and even though it's sad, it's hilarious to see just how much larger than the fox he is, heh. I will see if she can email me the pics.

On the subject of stereo goods, has there been any recent news of the organic tvs (OLD or whatever it is)? I have been out of the next gen tech for tvs for a while now but heard about them some time back. Just curious where we stand for the "next big thing".

3D HDTV? Hmm that is going to be sweet! Anyways, I bet you are really pleased about the HD DVD add on for the 360..... When are you going to upgrade the PS2 to a PS3?

As far as me I've got 42" HD Plasma, Yamaha Digital receiver (7.1 DTS), Yamaha Fronts with 12" side firing subs in each, Yamaha center, Sony tower speakers as surrounds with 2x8 subs in each, and a random rear center channel, PlayStation3 handles the BluRays beautifully through HDMI of course. And yeah MGS4 is amazing MUCH better than GTA4, beat both of them in a week or so, and I like Grid better than GT5 Prologue.

Saw the 3D TVs at CES this last year... Insane... Infact it's creepy...

Some of them you have to be standing in a fixed position for them to work, others do require polarized glasses. A few DLP TVs can support dual projection for 3D right now.

But IMO the Next big thing will be UHD OLED TVs... the UHD TVs are insane as well, I thought I was looking out a window even though I was in the middle of the Las Vegas Convention Center. And OLED Blacks are TRUE black, which is crazy, they look photorealistic, and they're paper thin (ok more like 1" thin). Combine UHD and OLED and I bet dogs and cats start jumping through the TV.

No time soon. I work with the PS3 and find it to be a huge hunk of junk, for now. It needs a couple of gens before it is capable of doing what it is advertised to do. I do thank MS and Sony for turning their whiney !@#$% fighting into a waste of consumer time and money. Sony and MS should reimburse me.

Bart, thanks for the kudos!
It was a pleasure to have you all over and see the reactions!
You would be surprised how much a great receiver can make a difference in even a mediocre audio system. I would suggest upgrading the receiver and a big sub first. I can get you killer deals on similar equipment when you are ready...

My system is all fairly old. It includes a Pioneer 47" HDTV, Sony STR-D 1011S Reciever, Nackamichi cassette deck (I'm sure 1or2 of you remember cassettes), Design Acoustics satallite speakers with 12" downward firing sub, and a Toshiba SD3980 DVD player.
I picked up the speakers and cassette deck over 20 years ago while in Japan and they still sound very good. I actually wanted to get a pair of Klipsh horn's while over there but the shipping would have been outragous due to their 4ft x 4ft x 4ft size and weight....but man did they sound sweet and were super efficient (of course another downfall to them was placing them in a room...they were BIG).
If you are ever in Japan you need to check out the sound and video floors of a store called Dieechi's (sp?). It is amazing!
