I'm definately buying a ScanGauge II and I believe I have looked at all of the VX mount options pictures on the site. Yet, I am interested in possibly doing the mirror mount:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Factory-Mount-ScanGuage-ScanGauge-II-Scan-Gauge_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6755QQihZ008QQite mZ180257485277QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

I believe our mirrors have the 3/4" linkage.

My primary concern is cable lenghth. I would run the cable from the gauge through the middle of the spiral map light cable, tucked into the headliner over and down the drivers front pillar to the OBDII plug, so:

What is the cable length in the ScanGauge II box? (I could not find this in any of the product descriptions)?

The cable tip that plugs into the gauge looks like an ethernet size. Could an ethernet male-female extention chord work or are the #prongs used/in different orders, different?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Please disregard previous post, the mirror mount has an extension cable.

Has anyone done a mirror mount? Thanks.

you can pop out your ashtray and it's a near perfect fit... that's where I put mine. Just a thought. You do have to look down to read it though.

as long as you use an ethernet cable that is straight through (ie not crossover) it works fine to extend it

Thanks, etlsport.

taylorRitchie, do you have pictures of the mounting (sounds dirty...)
I looked through your gallery and didn't see a dash shot. BTW, belated sorry about the S-10. Hopefully in this day and age they'll just drill a hole through your tank to steal the gas. I'll bet there's a booming business of gas tank hole sealing...

I cut a hole in my electrical box cover with a Dremel. I made it snug so the ScanGuage sits firmly into the hole. The cable was easily tucked under the lower dash trim and connected to the OBD II port.

It looks pretty good down there I think.

:) I like that, Bart, and I saw your picture when I used the "Search" function." I'd like to see the ashtray mount to decide.

I ordered the mirror mount in a package deal with the ScanGauge, but I'm sure I could move it on eBay.

I kinda' like the idea of the mirror mount for visibility, but I really got the gauge to monitor the happiness of the 3.5L, and I ordered another cable for use on the Saab and Land Rover. So, ease of removability of the gause propper is at issue, too.

Call me crazy or ignorant if you will, but I don't think that "happiness" is one of the monitored parameters...:smilewink

Happiness is in the eyes of the beholder.

For a 3.5L lump, happiness is Throttle Position, Engine Load, Ignition Timin, etc. within parameters. :gring:

Yeah, no fun... But I'm sure in the future the gas will be more important to them :D.

Here's my mount.

When I finally get around to doing stereo in the car then I'll fill in the small ~1/8" gap at the top of it. And small gap at the bottom, not visible from Driver's or Passenger perspective... in fact you'd have to be sitting on the floor or doing a handstand to see ;)

Cool, Etlsport,
I do like it there. Since the ashtray should be accesible from any Rodeo (hopefully same front color?), I was thinking of lopping a section out of the ashtrap to recess the finished, normally-angled-front of the ashtray, so the ScanGauge would set flush straight up and down with the surrounding plastic, or even angled slightly up, then any visible gap(s) would show the finished front of the ashtray behind. Does any of that make sense?

I would not do it if I find out that VX ashtrays were a different colored front piece than any other Rodeo. I just bought a full Rodeo upper front dash surround off eBay, complete with all switches, to include R/Door Opener and fuzzy cubby switch panel replacement.

All need now is a lower CD-area dash section and I'll probably be off to my painter to have them painted Foxfire. Eventually door panels to match.

I got the ScanGauge II mirror-mounted.
BlendMount Mirror Mount:

I got the Add-a-Gauge Model with an extra cable for use on the Saab.

I'll leave it there for the time being until another location calls out to me. It's nice to be able to angle it for optimal viewing. No real mounting and chord-routing issues, though the leading edge of my headliner almost seemed "glued" to the roof metal. I removed the pillar trim, sun visors, etc. to gently pull down the front of the headliner to route the ScanGauge cable through the existing mirror cable hole. I ran the gauge cable through the mirror's spiral cable.
