any input greatly appreciated :)
Those little flappy thingies (an industry term...:smilewink) keep all manor of mung & drool from your undercarraige & motor compartment...
There is nothing that belongs in those "extra" holes in the valve covers, but I put stainless steel cap screws & washers in them, because I'm enough of a freak to prefer the appearance...:rolleyesg

I met this guy with the coolest Rodeo sport/ amigo( was black and super tricked out for offroading) in Lake Tahoe this past winter and he took those floppy things off, he said he tooked them off for better cooling of the engine and stuff, do you guys think it would help or it's just better no to do that keep junk from coming in?

well they dont do much on my undercarriage in terms of protection... i have mud and grime everywhere on both sides of the "flappy things" so thats 4 flaps x two sides = eight dirty places :p
they dont look like they are very secure.... it looks like they were removed and then put back in a hurry / not properly....
i have a feeling my baby was wrecked at sum point.... ill take pics and post what i mean tomorrow (if i remember)

I took the flappy bits of rubber off mine when I was playing with the camber angle shims and forgot to put them back, when I eventually noticed they were missing I'd lost them. Anyway went offroading and waded through some deep water, which I had done before with no ill effects, however this time I must have washed all the grease out of the bearings on my aircon pump and it howled like hell. It's quietened down now after being sprayed down with lube but it still needs stripping.
So my advice is leave them on but if you do take them off can I buy them;)

Just a thought here Col...
But if there are any other VX's in your area, you could make new ones using theirs as a pattern on some inner tube material.:_wrench:
Um... regarding the first pic is of the rear protective flap thingy... In my opinion, removing that would increase noise when on dirt roads or driving in the rain - maybe expect a tingy pebble hitting metal sound. Wind noise or road noise may increase as well. As to the flappy things in the front, they also seem to keep mud off the exhaust manifolds when getting in the goo. Not sure if the "headers" would crack from cool mud sticking to hot metal (doubtful right?) but they do help keep things a little cleaner in the engine bay.
