found this site the other day.. wonder how "easy" it would be to swap the 4L V8 from an aurora into a VX? as far as i know nobody else has put another engine in a vx except the LS1 ?

Interesting I like the idea of a V-8

That's actually really good info in case my engine blows!

It's a bear of a job...no joke. Fabbing the mounts and getting the block in there is the easiest part. Even putting a carb on there(to avoid all the millions of ECU problems you will get) what trans are you intending to use? Stock won't take the power, and it wouldn't talk to the computerless engine anyway. You pretty much have to figure on an entire driveline swap. Now you're into my area.....RWD, VQ upfront, Nissan 6sp, Nismo rear end;) I've been tossing that one around for years. Just changing the engine alone, is tough. I just read the link.....I don't know guys. It's a starting thought perhaps.

I was thinking LS1 for mine but figured to do it right would easily creep over $10,000 after the engine, NV3500 transmission, and Atlas transfer case ;)

Fortunately, I have a donor 3.5 in the works. Maybe it'll last long enough for me to find good deals on the other components so I can go V8 later.

Has anyone used anything in addition to a S/C on their VX? My S/C makes the VX perform so much better but just wondering if anyone has tried something else. Going V8 does sound tempting though. Scott

Too heavy.....weight is the enemy

Hmm, just now seeing this. Funny enough, I had inherited a Cadillac Eldorado from my father when he passed away about 6 years ago. I had the car for a few years afterwards until selling it outright to Carmax since I never used it.

Had the 4.5L Northstar V-8.... ah, had I had known, heh.

Chopper, you're right, they are heavy and I love 'em.

I know this is an old thread, but hey why not: Anyone know if a VQ series engine from a Nissan 350Z or similar would work as a Candidate Engine for a swap? Im not too interested in V-8s...

Bmw, Porsche and Mercedes all have some heavy and fast suvs ;)

Unless you find a turbo V6, most other NA V6's would not be worth the considerable effort that it takes to perform the swap.

I am a huge fan of 4/6 cylinder turbo engines and even I am considering LS4 swap (LSx V8 family engine that bolts up to our tranny).

Throwing around the idea of buying a totaled audi, Mercedes or vw diesel awd v6 suv. All have around 400ft/ld of tq in the turbo diesels and I've spotted ones that have the rear smashed for $2000 to $3000. Using the engine and (6 speed tranny) bolted to the tod. Setup the tod to be manually controled on the fly. Also models available with paddle shift. I figure if your gona do it make it a fuel saver with awsome power. Use as much of the totaled car to modernize the isuzu, you name it and as long as i keep the harness intact i can wire in any godies as i go out of the doner car such as nav, dash parts. Got the old lady a merc cdi and I love that engine cause its very strong and tourqy. I'd estimate milage at 35mpg in the vx because it is about 2000lbs lighter then her awd van and im seeing 27MPG in it. Any thoughts? Also the engines are about the same size. I'd start by pulling the body totaly off to gain full access to the drivetrain.
