1999 Isuzu Amigo check engine light just went on.
Everything is running fine with no problems.
I do regular maintenance to the Amigo.
103,000 miles and runs great.
Any suggestions on how to get the light off or service that might be required?
I have had other vehicles that the check engine light went on every 30,000 miles so you would have to take it back to the dealer to service and turn off the light. I don't ever remember this happening on the Isuzu.

You need to get the code read. A lot of the chain auto parts stores (Checkers, Auto Zone...) will do this for free (they figure they may get a sale out of it). They usually will not reset it for you since it is technically illegal for them to do unless the problem is fixed. If the light is on steady it is not a big deal...yes something is wrong but your VX is not on the brink of blowing up. If the light is flashing, that is not a good thing and needs imediate attention. A lot of times the light comes on for emmissions related items (sensors). After getting the code read if you post the results we can be of more help.

Also to reset the light/computer you just need to disconnect the battery for 15-20 minutes.

I almost always disconnect the battery like stated to get a second opinion. Works for humans too. Lol. The computer isnt perfect either. Sometimes its just a spurt signal that may mean nothing. 93,000 miles on VX no light, 98 Trooper used to get weird O2 sensor garbage, second opinion would turn it off, and it wouldnt return for 4 months or so. Weird. If something is wrong, youll know by the quick check engine light returning.
