OK, its time for another Reno meet up! Who is in?

I am thinking May 5th or 6th, or sometime in late May.

CrnCnn has a nice trail picked out on the south end of town, and a place to eat, so we can meet up, have some chow, and then head for the hills.

Let's do it!

Ok,

So since Acsinders VX appears complete it sounds like we need a get together. I posted on another thread about my idea as to where to meet. I took Lousetown (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=lousetown+rd+reno&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=26.674078,59.238281&layer=&ie=UTF8&z=11&ll=39.433541,-119.586868&spn=0.202589,0.462799&om=1) road up in the VC highlands it seems a little rough but I didn’t go that far. It is supposed to take you all the way to Lockwood. I figure that the three of us could manage. We could meet at Nick and Willies (http://local.yahoo.com/details;_ylt=AuEErQv29RXBsACUwQfl2VSHNcIF?id=20342 465&state=NV&city=Reno&stx=nick+willies&csz=Reno%2C+NV&fr=dd-local-more&ed=q.qfTa131DzJFzToN7BpURj1efJt80i0XYWw39MygLAaYxe GRDEMavlRug--&lcscb=NW2M8h1eP15) at the bottom of the mountain for some grub and then head up. The first weekend in May works for me, well almost any weekend works for me I been working OT during the week so I get my weekends off. We will be moving on the third week/weekend of May so that ones out.

Sounds good. Hopefully Ascinder will join in and maybe some folks from Sac or some of the mysterious other Reno VXers that seem to be around (fat chance, I know).

Yeah, I got bored with my Seattle winter weather, so I decided to drive to Moab with my two Shiba Inu dogs. I figure I'll be able to drive through Reno on the way back north!

My Shibas love going new places...

Yes, I know I'm weird, but I just feel like taking a LONG drive with the dogs. Somewhere warm.

I'm leaving Seattle on May 7th or so, heading generally south-east until I find some good flyfishing water. I'll be camping along the route, or maybe staying in cheap motels if I feel like splurging (or showering!).

I'll drive all the way to Utah, and then try to find Arches and Canyonlands and...yes...Moab. I'll do whatever it takes to be there when the rest of you VX nerds are there.

So, anyone going to Moab please write down this number:

206-778-8495.

That's my cell number. I'll be up for burgers, beer, barbecue...pretty much anything that starts with a 'b', I guess.

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!

CrnCnn

That's cool. I don't know if my wife will come along either, she isn't much into the off-roading thing. Either way, should be a good time. And it sounds like we might have 4 VXes there too!

WooHoo!

BartI feel 'ya. Brig's idea of "roughing"it, is staying at the Holiday Inn instead of the Sheraton. Driving past a sporting goods store is as close as she'll ever be to a tent. Tried to get her on a local, kayak/nature tour last year...got the same look the cat gives you, when he realizes the bath you're running, is for him.

Hey Clint?! Any news about that trail?

Everyone else still in for May 20, 2007?

I just blocked this day off on my calander, so lets do it! I know this meet up is in the shadow of Moab right now, but I don't want it to fall by the wayside.

Not too much, I talked to another guy who lives up that way and he was familiar with it. Said its pretty good a few tight spots and switchbacks but he said we should be able to handle it.

I will post more when I get it.

Everyone still down?

I’m thinking Noonish to meet up 4 grub. My buddy goes to church across the street from the pizza/deli place and wants to ride with me so he will walk over and meet us then. I think the Wrangler won’t be along, though he wants to try the road he said maybe he will do it tomorrow and give us the low down. The road looks pretty long on the map but if we wanted we could take one of the others and circle back to the start point. I think.

If any one has anything better for options let me know. I’m really indecisive, so planning this is not easy for me.

Here at Nik-N-Willies (http://local.yahoo.com/details;_ylt=AuEErQv29RXBsACUwQfl2VSHNcIF?id=20342 465&state=NV&city=Reno&stx=nick+willies&csz=Reno%2C+NV&fr=dd-local-more&ed=q.qfTa131DzJFzToN7BpURj1efJt80i0XYWw39MygLAaYxe GRDEMavlRug--&lcscb=NW2M8h1eP15)

I dont have a winch, I could borrow a tow strap but other than that not much else that I can bring to help. If my coworker goes with his wrangler, he has a nice new winch.

I did it in a 2004 Dodge Dakota 4x QC. It was all stock. If you stick to the phone pole road you will do fine. The hardest part is figuring where to drop in to lockwood.

Go to Lousetown through Lousetown road. That will take you to the fire station as well. You avoid the highlands twisty turning and boring stuff and cut to the chase. Its really easy. Follow lousetown road to the end of it and hop off on the dirt and stay with the phone lines. You will go right by (High side of) bronco canyon and when you get the rock wall at the bottom (cant miss it) it will take you to logarmarsino canyon where it will drop you off at the P'glyphs. check those out and keep heading on that road and it take you to lockwood.

So basically BRING a camera, were going to check out some Petra glyphs. I also have found out about some other cool sounding trails and groups that we could cruise with. Fellow Reno VXers check out Reno4x4.com and hillsangels4x4.com for trail options and stuff. I think that the Hunter Lake Trail would be cool.

I hope to be there. I've spent the past three days enjoying the Utah Valley region. See these threads for photos:

I'm staying in Moab for the next three days...arriving on the 13th and leaving on the 16th. Depending on my route homeward, I may be in the Reno area on the 20th. I may end up in Northern California, though. Yosemite Valley!

I'll keep this thread updated, though. My dogs say "hi".

Sweet! I'm still in. So, we meet for lunch, fatten up and then head out.

I don't think we will have anyone getting stuck here in Reno. There isn't much sticky stuff here. The worst case would be a flat. Make sure you have a full size spare. Depending on the difficulty, we may consider airing down a little. And remember, I have no lift or skid plates, so it will be hardest for me.

I would also recommend bringing plenty of extra water, I will have my GPS so we won't get lost, cameras, jack, air up kit, we should be fine. Now we just need to make sure everyone comes!

I am ready when you guys are.

I really want a good digital camera so I dont have to wait, or pay.

I will be loking into a GPS and some software that you can plot you "waypoints." Whatever, I know nothing about GPS except that the people that I used to go to the sand dunes with in AZ had it and called it PMS cause it would always make them pissed off.

Anyway, my schedule will be changing soon so that I wont have sundays off. We will have to figure it out.

Yeah, I have a lot going on this summer, but we should take a day and do a lunch/VX meet/shooting event sometime soon.

I love my Garmin GPS, but it was a MAJOR pain in the @$$ to get working and it wasn't cheap. Go here (http://www.thegpsstore.com/) to get a decent deal and all the info you ever wanted on GPS devices.

I can usually make it about 8 hours with good traffic and a couple of pit stops.
I'm actually coming up this weekend but the VX is getting dropped off for a head-to-toe inspection(!), so I'll be in some kind of a rental.

Rental. Yuck. But it does make you appreciate the VX even more!

I am currently trying to scout out some trails here in the sierra nevadas that are not too difficult to do without a lift, and that are not gated. The trail I tried out last weekend was pretty good up to the point where I turned around, but due to lots of rocks in the middle of it, I don't know about clearance with stock VXs. I also found out that the trail turns into one of the most difficult runs of the Rubicon(Fordyce Jeep trail) a little down the road, so maybe not such a great idea. I'll keep you guys posted with what I find. We'll pretty much have to stick to the Nevada side too, because I can't bring my rifle to California(those pinko commies) without getting an instant felony. I think the same goes for you Bart. I think the deal is that you can't have a detachable magazine if I remember correctly.

Sounds good. We still have Clint's trail to do also. That one would be nice to do for a whole day trip were we can bring lunches, etc.

As for guns, I totally understand. I never bring anything over the border into Cali, and all of my rifles have detachable mags. :)

Yeah, you need to! Nevada is a good state for gunners. I've never shot a 3.06.

:) Bart

Well then all the more reason to get out there. Cari actually wants to get a concealed weapon permit so I will be looking into that and new handguns this summer.

I have some contacts for a concealed weapons permit if you want CrnCnn. Just let me know. Also, shoot me a price on the roof rack that is sucking up dust in my shed if you still want it.
