I found out today I need to replace my engine after 66000 miles. Rebuilts are expensive. Is there any reason I could not use a 3.5 from some other Isuzu? I assume they used them on the Trooper or Rodeo. Are they the same and can they be interchanged?

The easy answer is pretty much yes, and yes. A later, direct injection, engine, will require an electronic upgrade to match the engine.

I have checked for a used engine and they want $3500 for those! with the prices it looks like you pretty much have to junk these things if the engine goes, which appears to happen quite frequently.

Well you will get a core charge reduction by returning the old engine for the remanned one

So its good for that...

3200 is about the best price I have seen for these engines from a reliable source

If they get lower than that and the warranty is poor, I would stay away from that one

3 yrs and unlimited mileage is the best warranty I have seen and that pretty much tells the story....they wouldnt do that if they didnt know the quality of their rebuilt engines

I was looking at an engine on ebay for 3299.00 with 149.00 shipping and a 475 core. Now the engine is 3499.00 with 675 core. Buy it now price may have gone up more, the revision history says its been revised 3 times. Gonna have to pass on that one. Don't want to deal with a company like that. Rhino is the best choice I see right now. Good Luck.

I didnt see anything about revision history in the ebay ad....3 yr/100,000mile warranty is pretty solid....it cant be that bad a source

^Thats the link to the description records for the ad. I talked to them and they said they had to go with new cranks because the oem ones were breaking. The revision is below the top pic and above the Engines Direct logo. It says description revisions I believe. Didn't get an answer on the core going up though. I may still have to go with them but I won't be as sure about it as I was before all the sudden changes. Good Luck.
