I just contacted a local 4x4 center to schedule my VX lift. I gave him the part numbers for the components I need installed— Rancho RS9000X (part# 99214-front; 99215-rear) and OME 912 shocks. He told me that his records indicate that this is a 0” lift for the VX and that he is concerned it might be a mis-application. He asked that I dig up some supporting information that these parts will fit the VX and give it a 2.5” lift. I also mentioned that the torsion bars will need cranked up about 2”, and he wants confirmation that the VX can be realigned properly before he will agree to do the work. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

I would tell him to go do some homework on these forums by doing searches for "lift","lifting", "OME912" and "torsion bars" and maybe have him look at some prominent member profiles and he'll have all the answers he needs. I think you could just call the people who make OME912s (ARB I think?) and ask them what the spring height is. I am sure one of the many lifted people here will chime in with stock vs. OME912 height, and I am pretty sure your search will turn up a thread discussing this very topic. Triathlete did a really good write up you will find in the how-to section of the board that gives a step by step process on doing this lift. It has a lot of supporting evidence that: -1. The lift does indeed work, and 2. It will be able to be re-aligned afterwards.

Look at my gallery I have 912's. I got a 3'' lift becuase my tires added an additional 0.5 inch of ground clearance. And yes my VX was easily re-aligned, even easier if you flip your ball joint.

the other thing you could do see if a member in the area is lifted with that type of lift and persuade them to bring their VX by for the guy to look at.. what more proof could he need than one its already been done to

Sounds like its time to find a new shop. I don't know what book he is referencing but I don't think the VX is even listed in the OME spec's as the spring are listed for the Trooper. I along with 95% of the lifted VX's on this site are "LIFTED" with the OME springs.

Thanks for the help. i just printed Triathelete's lift instructions. I'm going to stop by the shop and see what they say. This shop is highly recommended in this area--it's just that they have never worked on a VX before. I have one other shop to try if this one let's me down...

I think he's probably referring to the SHOCKS as being listed for a 0" lift. Those part numbers you have are accurate. Those are definitely the Ranchos you need.

Obviously the springs will give you a lift. They're bigger.

Just sign a waiver or something. Sam's Offroad informed me that they could sell me the Rancho shocks if I TOLD them it was for a 0" lift, but that the shocks would work fine in a 3" lift too.

And 3 inches later, they are correct. The lift went without a hitch.

Speaking of which, now I need a hitch...for my mountain bike.
